B. THEORY

1.      Literature and Films

a.      Literature
Literature has been widely known by many people and experts. Etymologically, the word ‘literature’ is derived from the word ‘littera’ in Latin which means letter. It refers to the written or printed words. According to GNU of the Collaborative International Dictionary of English (2001) the term ‘literature’ is the class of writings distinguished for beauty of style or expression, as poetry, essays, or history, in distinction from scientific treatises and works which contain positive knowledge. Klarer (2004:1) says that in most cases, literature is referred to as the entirety of written expression, with the restriction that not every written document can be categorized as literature in the more exact sense of the word.
Wellek&Warren (1963:22) also state that the term literature seems best if we limit it to the art of literature, that is, to imaginative literature. Literature is also produced by imagination of the author. Literature is not just a document of facts, it is not just the collection of real events though it may happen in the real life. Literature can create its own world as a product of the unlimited imagination. Literature then, can be said as a creative writing by an author with aesthetic values which makes literature regarded as an art. Literature as a writing form differentiates its form from other art products, and its aesthetic or artistic values make it different from other writings.
As stated by Amin Wijaya (2010) Literature has great function in developing human’s feelings, ideas, and interests. Generally, the functions of literature are as follows: the first function is literature gives knowledge of those particularities with which science and philosophy are not concerned. The second function is that literature makes the human perceive what human see, imagine what human already know conceptually or practically. The final function of literature is that literature relieve human—either writers or readers—from the pressure of emotions. Literature also functions to contribute values of human lives. In education program, literature may give significant contribution for students’ development and knowledge. The contribution of literature in education covers intrinsic values and extrinsic values. The intrinsic values are the reward of a lifetime of wide reading recognizable in the truly literate person while the intrinsic values facilitate the development of language skills and knowledge.

b.      Films

The literature and film are completely dissimilar in their representation but they both are considered as important kinds of art that depict the society its values, condition and cultural ideologies that have enormous impact on its readers and the viewers (Arshad Masood, 1998) . When literature is composed in the form of film it has far-reaching effects on the thinking of its audience, also influences the feelings leaving a more positive mark for the diverse issues targeted in the film. It is observed that viewers of film are much more than readers of the literature whereas, each of them has its own importance. The transition of the required message to the audience through the films based on literature work, needs critical vision and suitable modification to ensure that the presentation of the films are made relevant to cultural and ideological interests and issues of the local audiences as they might have been ignored by the author due to certain reason or may be the time gap be one of the cause.
Hornby defines that film is  a series moving pictures recorded with sound that tells a story (Hornby, 2003). A film, also called a movie or motion picture, is a series of still or moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film).
A film is a series of unchanging or moving images. It is produced by recording photographic images with cameras, or by creating images using animation techniques or visual effects. From the explanation above, the writer concluded that film is a series of moving picture with sounds and characters recorded in such a media in certain durations telling a story made by a director. The elements of film are the same as the elements of the novel include theme, character and characterization, setting of time and place, plot, point of view.
a)      Theme
According to Peck&Coyle (1989:141) “theme is the large idea or concept it is dealing with.” By theme, we can imagine that it should be expressed in the form of expression as the implication of whole story, but it cannot tell us the separable of the story. By comprehending the theme, we can guests the core of the content. Making interesting theme will make people curious to watch the whole story. From both explanation, the writers deals with the theme. It means theme is “a main idea”. Theme starting points which guide the play director to write his imaginary on the story.
b)      Character and Characterization
Peck&Coyle in Literary Terms and Criticism (1989:79) state that “the people in a play/drama/film are referred to as characters”.  According to DiYanni (2000:745) “characters bring plays to life.” First and last we become absorbed in the characters: how they look and what their appearance tells us about them; what they say and what their manner of saying expresses; what they do and how their actions reveal who they are and what they represent. We may come to know them and respond to them in ways we come to know and respond to actual people, all the while realizing that characters are literary imitations of human beings. “Characterization is the author’s way of describing his characters in a literary work; or it is the author’s means of differentiating one character to another.”
c)      Setting
Abrams, (1991:284) states that: The overall setting of a narrative or dramatic work is the general locale, historical time, and social circumstances in which its action occurs; the setting of a single episode or scene within such a work is the particular physical location in which it takes place. Setting is important. It can be concerned with the place in which the character live and the time in which they live.
d)     Plot
Peck and Coyle (1989:88) mentioned that “Plot is said to be the fully-developed version of the story.” It takes account of the nature of the each other and their dramatic effect. DiYanni (2000:743) states that: Plot is the structure of a play’s action. Although it encompasses what happens in a play, plot is more than the sum of incidents. Plot is the order of the incidents, their arrangement and form. Traditional plot structure consists of an exposition, presentation of background information necessary for the development of the plot; rising action, a set of conflict and crises; climax, the play’s most decisive crisis; falling action, a follow-up that moves toward the play’s resolution or denouement (French for the untying of a knot).
e)      Point of View
Abrams (1991:231) states that: Point of View signifies the way a story gets told—the mode (or modes) established by an author by means of which the reader is presented with the characters, dialogue, actions, setting, and events which constitute the narrative in a work of fiction.

2.      Moral and Values in Literature and Films

Moral values are important in life. The writer conduct to clarify the relationship that exists between moral values and literature . That such a relationship can be drawn should not be surprising; literary works often take as their starting point human situations or, more generally, can reflect the moral thoughts of their author. However, as will become clear in this work, exactly how this relationship but first the writer would like to explain what the moral and value means as discussed below :

a.      Moral

Etymologically the term "morality" comes to the Latin word “mores”  which indicates the "character". Another meaning of the word - the law, rule, order. In contemporary philosophical literature on moral ethics course, a special form of social consciousness and a kind of public relations, one of the main ways to regulate human actions in society by means of rules.
Morality arises and evolves based on the needs of society to regulate the behavior of people in different areas of their lives. Morality is one of the methods available to people understanding the complex processes of social life. A root of the problem is to regulate relations between morality and interests of individual and society.
Moral ideals, principles and rules of any representations from people about justice, humanity, good, public goods, etc. In other words, the moral that, in the opinion of people in the interests of society and individuals. That brings the greatest benefits. Naturally, these presentation varied from century to century, and besides, they were different in various layers and groups.
According to Hobbes (1967) there are three basics framework of concepts morality as below :
a)     Moral activity - an essential component of morality, which manifests itself in deeds. Act or set of behaviors characterizing individual behavior gives an idea of its true morality. Therefore, only activities and realization of moral principles and rules allow individual right to recognition in her true moral culture.
b)Moral relationships- relationships in starostas come people doing things. Moral relations are subjective dialectics (motivation, interests, desires) and objective (norms, ideals, good luck) with which accounted considered, and for individuals who have an imperative character. Entering the moral relationship, people impose on themselves defined moral obligations and at the same time impose a moral law.
c)     Moral consciousness - involves cognition, knowledge, motivation and volitional decisive influence on moral and ethical activity relationships. It also includes: moral identity, moral self-image. Moral consciousness always axiological, because each of its element, it concludes with the assessment position produced by the system of values and based on a certain set of moral norms, patterns, principles, traditions and ideals.
Moral is a human term in defining a human or other person related to their actions that have a positive value. A human who does not have moral is called as immoral. It means he does not have a positive value in other people sight. So, the writer concluded that moral is an absolute thing owned by humans and the term of moral related to the socialization process of the individual, without moral people cannot do the process of socialization.

b.      Value

Value means the worth of the thing. Value in the singular is sometimes used as an abstract noun. In a narrower sense to cover that to which such terms as “good” or “worthwhile” are properly applied and in the wider sense to cover, in addition all kinds of rightness, obligation, virtue, beauty, truth, and holiness (Edwards, 1967).
While according to Earle, value is positive quality of anything whereby it is desirable, useful, interesting, good, and important (Earle, 1992). Only a few of the terms are available for the expression of positive values. Whether values are part of the intrinsic nature of things or simply a matter of how humans respond to things is controversial.
However, in order to understand them better, it is useful to classify the types of values according to the following criteria:
a)      Personal values
These are considered essential principles on which we build our life and guide us to relate with other people. They are usually a blend of family values and social-cultural values, together with our own individual ones, according to our experiences.

b)      Family values
These are valued in a family considered either good or bad. These derive from the fundamental beliefs of the parents, who use them to educate their children.  They are the basic principles and guidelines of our initial behavior in society, and are conveyed through our behaviors in the family, from the simplest to the most complex.

c)      Social-cultural values
These are the prevailing values of our society, which change with time, and either coincide or not with our family or personal values.  They constitute a complex mix of different values, and at times they contradict one another, or pose a dilemma.
Another example of the dilemmas that social-cultural values may pose is when they promote the idea that “the end justifies the means”.  With this as a pretext, terrorists and arbitrary rulers justify violence, intolerance, and lies while claiming that their true goal is peace.

d)     Material values
These values allow us to survive, and are related to our basic needs as human beings, such as food and clothing and protection from the environment. They are fundamental needs, part of the complex web that is created between personal, family and social-cultural values. If exaggerated, material values can be in contradiction with spiritual values.

e)      Spiritual values
They refer to the importance we give to non-material aspects in our lives. They are part of our human needs and allow us to feel fulfilled. They add meaning and foundation to our life, as do religious beliefs

f)       Moral values
Values that help determine what is morally right or wrong, e.g. freedom, fairness, equality, well-being. The attitudes and behaviors of society considers essential for coexistence, order, and general well-being.
From the the explanations above, it can be concluded shortly that value is the precious of a thing, whether it is good, nice, interesting, fun, and other positive appraisal to the things they can see and feel.

c.       Moral Values in Literature and Films

Moral values are the result of valuing process of comprehension implementing of God and humanity values in life. So, these values will guide human knowledge and creativity appropriately (Linda&Eyre, 1997). Moral values are things to be right or wrong or desirable or undesirable. While morality is sometimes described as innate in human, the scientific view is that a capacity for morality is genetically determined in us, but the set of moral values is acquired, through example, teaching, and imprinting from parents and society.
A relation with the moral literature has been known by many people. In fact, since classical times it has become a common conversation. Plato, as a classical figure, hoping to find three elements in every work that he considers either: first, to give a higher moral teaching; second, to give pleasure; third, provide accuracy in the form of disclosure (Hardjana, 1991: 1-2). This is confirmed by Esten (1990: 7-8) that said, there are some values that must be owned by a literary work; aesthetic values, moral values, and the values that are conceptual. These values cannot be separated at all. Something aesthetic is something that has moral. There is no beauty without morals. 3.      Doraemon Stand by Me 2014 Movie

“Doraemon Stand by Me” the first 3D computer animated feature of this series was released in Japan in August 8, 2014 and released last December in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.  It follows the titular character’s journey from the future to help Nobita and how he fulfils his quest in the present day. It features the voice talents of Wasabi Mizuta (Doraemon), Megumi Ohara (Nobita), Yumi Kazaku (Shizuka), Tomokazu Seki (Suneo), and Subara Kimura (Gian). The movements come off as too smooth and fluid in certain instances, especially when they’re smiling. At times, it looks too perfect, such as when they’re slowly smiling or when there are long, exaggerated movements. It lacks a certain organic flaw that would help their actions seem more believable.
“Doraemon Stand by Me” contains all the elements of a Doraemon story - namely, lots of lots of futuristic devices from his giant front pocket. Although the animation takes a while to settle into, by the end of Act One, audiences will have settled into the comfortingly familiar settings and situations that befits a usual Doraemon episode - a fitting send-off for the end of the Doraemon franchise. “Doraemon Stand by Me” is a film for all ages - the comedic elements are ever-present for younger viewers, but the emotional resonance of Nobita and Doraemon’s relationship are what appeals to older viewers. It brings a satisfying close to the end of the Doraemon franchise for everyone.
At its core, the movie is a tale of friendship between these two most unlikely of characters. The development progresses imperceptibly - you hardly notice how the two are becoming friends. But the strong contrast between Doraemon’s initial reluctance to help Nobita and his declaration of what Nobita means to him at the end of the film show us just how far their relationship has developed, even if Nobita himself doesn’t realise it at that point.
Despite his many faults and flaws at the start of the film, Nobita shows one persistent character trait - his desire to help others. It is this trait that spurs his character growth, and he redeems himself multiple times over the film through his sheer force of will and his love for the people around him. We leave the film feeling that Nobita truly deserves Doraemon, not because he’s so inept that he needs gadgets from the future, but because he’s a person who is worth of such a friend.
The climax of the film is a tearjerker. The lengths that Doraemon and Nobita will go to for each other, and their unspoken emotions are what makes the final events all the more painful for the audience to see. It’s not a tragic conclusion by any means, but the fact that neither realises how deep their friendship has become will tug on the heartstrings, and almost everyone in the cinema was sobbing at the finale.
Fortunately, the film leaves the audience with feel-good vibes when it finally ends. It provides a welcome outcome for the characters, and grows Doraemon and Nobita’s relationship from one of need and dependency, to that of interdependency and companionship.

When he felt that he would failed to help shizuka, but Nobita’s future believe that he can help Shizuka although he had bad experienced before.

:
I was scared.
Nobita’s future
:
You're okay now. Your plan worked.

In the following sections, key findings are presented and discussed in the context of what these certain type of moral values became dominant in the Doraemon:Stand by Me movie. The writer conclude the most moral values became dominant are bravery and perseverance.
First, bravery is the person who capable to meet danger or endure pain or hardship without giving in to fear. Bravery is arising from or suggestive or mastery of fear and intelligent use of faculties especially under duress (Webster, 1981: 269). The writer almost see the moral value of Bravery in this film. It can be seen from the main character of this film, when Nobita have a courage to pick Shizuka in the future to help her during a snowstorm. Although we know that Nobita is a very weak boy. Nobita said, “You're so dramatic. I have to hurry and go save her!!” to Doraemon. It means he has a brave to save Shizuka, the girl who he loved so much without Doraemon’s help. Another evidence described the bravery is when Nobita was fighting with Giant and he realized that fighting without Doraemon’s help was the right choice. He tried to not counting on Doraemon.
Second, another moral message to be learned from this movie is how perseverance or spirit never gives up that very influential in the future. Preverance, this type of moral values is the second place which became dominant in this movie Perseverance is not giving up. It is persistence and tenacity, the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard. Nobita said, “ I didn't think thoroughly. It's my fault. I have to do something by myself. There must be a way Shizukaa!!” to Shizuka. Then the other example of preverance in this movie is when Nobita tried to learn and didn’t want to get a poor score in the class, he didn’t want for counting on Doraemon, he wanted taking seriously with himself.

APPENDIXES
THE MAIN CHARACTERS :

Doraemon is the robotic cat sent back in time by Sewashi to aid Nobita. He possesses a fourth-dimensional pocket from which he can acquire various kinds of futuristic tools, gadgets, and playthings from a future department store. Doraemon originally had ears but they were bitten
off by a robotic mouse in the 22nd century. As a result, he developed a morbid fear of mice despite being a robotic cat. He also has the tendency to panic during emergencies, characterized by him frantically trying to pull out a very much-needed tool from his pocket, only to produce a huge assortment of unrelated household items.
Doraemon’s physical appearance changed as the manga progressed. At first, he was predominantly blue, with a blue tail, a white stomach, and flesh-coloured hands and feet. He also stooped, and had a body much larger than his head. In later issues, he sported a smaller body, white hands and feet, and a red tail–the appearance most identify him with today. Doraemon weighs 129.3 kg (285 lbs) and measures at 129.3 cm (4’3″) tall. He is able to run at 129.3 km/h (80.3 mph) when scared and jump 129.3 m (424.2 ft) when threatened. His maximum power is 129.3 bhp. He is manufactured on September 3, 2112 (12/9/3), at the Matsushiba Robot Factory (Matsushiba Robot Factory?). Doraemon is considered a substandard product because many of his robotic features (ie. radar whiskers and cat-calling bell) malfunctioned after production. One can turn off Doraemon by pulling his balloon tail. Doraemon’s favourite food is dorayaki (dorayaki?), a Japanese treat filled with red bean paste. Speculations led to dorayaki being the origin of his name.

Nobita (Nobita Nobi) is the other major character of the series. He is a fourth grader in Tokyo’s Nerima Ward and an only child. He wears glasses, a red or yellow polo shirt with a white collar, and blue shorts. Nobita’s character flaws are endless: he is lazy, uncoordinated, dim-witted, frail, plain-looking, unlucky, and bad at sports. Nobita’s typical day consists of arriving late to class, scoring zeros on his exam, getting lectured by his teacher, being bullied by classmates Gian and Suneo, falling into curbside rain gutters, being chased by dogs, and getting yelled at by his mom for refusing to do his homework

Shizuka (Shizuka Minamoto), usually called Shizu-chan or Shizuka-chan , is the smart, kind, and pretty neighborhood girl who is the object of Nobita’s affections. She takes baths several times a day. Somehow, Nobita always seem to unintentionally walk in on her (via the Dokodemo Door) while she is still in the bathtub. She is also known for taking piano lessons unwillingly, which is sometimes used as an excuse for declining to hang out with Nobita. Her true passions are sweet potatoes and the violin, in which her playing is as atrocious as Gian’s singing. Due to Doraemon’s intervention, Shizuka will become Nobita’s wife in the future timeline.

Takeshi Goda, usually known by the nickname “Gian” (Jaian) from English word “giant”, is the big, strong, and quick-tempered local bully. His nickname may be derived from giant. He is known for his confidence in his terrible singing voice. He regularly subjects the neighborhood children to horrendous singing recitals, which is sometimes combined with his equally bad homemade dinner. Several of the stories revolve around Nobita and his friends’ efforts to avoid Gian’s concerts. However, he does not hesitate to help Nobita and his friends when they are in real trouble, which often occurs in the movies. Although he bullies the other children (mostly Nobita), he is terrified of his mother, who runs the local grocery store. He founded his own baseball team named after himself.

Suneo (Suneo Honekawa), is the fox-faced rich kid who loves to flaunt his material wealth before everyone. He is often seen with Gian, serving as Gian’s lackey while they bully Nobita together. Some of the stories start with Suneo showing off some new video game or toy which evokes Nobita’s envy. He has an extensive knowledge of science, and is a talented artist and designer. In some scenes, Suneo is seen as a narcissist who loves to stare at himself in the mirror while telling himself that he is the most handsome guy in the world. He is still a bed-wetter and needs to wear diapers when he sleeps, despite being in the fourth grade. He considers this humiliating habit his secret weakness. Suneo is also very self-conscious about his height, being the shortest kid in his class.
